Yes this is possible without installing any plugins or doing some custom coding by means of your wordpress theme options
Follow the below steps (This is available in Hueman theme)
Step 1: Go to Appearence –> Customize
Step 2: On the Customize Go to Front Page content
Step 3: On the FrontPage content, you will see something like a filter shown below
Step 4: On that filter, choose the category of your choice
